Designed to help support Pre-Registration trainees during their PRP by providing a forum to discuss any queries they may have with fellow students and qualified optometrists, including College examiners and assessors. We have 3 advisers to answer your queries; Tim Hunter, John Tickner and Steven Meynell.
Use of the College Library
The College Library is one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of optical works containing some 6,500 optical books and pamphlets. Most books on university reading lists are stocked in the library and students may borrow up to two books for a period of four weeks at a time. Loans may be renewed twice, via email, telephone or letter, subject to the book not having been reserved by another Member. For further information please call the library direct on 020 7766 4352.
Annual Student Newsletter, Foresight
This newsletter is distributed to all undergraduate offices at the beginning of term and will be available at Student Roadshows. The newsletter is designed to offer an insight into the work of the College and is a useful source of information for students. This year's newsletter features an inteview with Peter Coe on the new GOC Student Registration process, an article describing changes to to the Scheme for Registration and information on CV writing tips and interview techniques.
Discounted tickets for the Annual College Conference, Optometry Tomorrow
In 2007, this will take place on 11 and 12 March at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Hotel. The event will include lectures and workshops that are likely to be of interest to 2nd and 3rd year students. Student Associate Members will be eligible for a 50% discount on both 1-Day and 2-Day tickets, and a limited number of complimentary tickets will be made available to students studying or living in the local area. Access to the College Members’ Room
In early 2005 the College opened its new Members’ Room, in response to Members wanting a space within the College to meet and relax. If you are visiting London with friends and family, and want somewhere to relax you are more than welcome to use the Members’ Room during normal working hours from Monday to Friday. The College is located just off the Strand (near Charing Cross Station) in, London. The Members’ Room is situated on the ground floor of the College at the front of the Library and contains a soft seating area. You are welcome to visit the Members’ Room whenever you like, however the College would appreciate 24 hours advanced notification.
