Candidates who have successfully completed some formal courses of study for MSc modules and certificates in relevant subjects may apply for exemptions:
Diabetes
Applicants who have achieved the Diabetes Shared Care Certificate from City University are not required to take the written examination of the College's Certificate in Diabetes.
Applicants are required to take the practical examination, submit a clinical portfolio and undertake a viva. The content of the portfolio will be as for the Certificate in Diabetes, outlined in the Higher Qualification Information Pack.
Glaucoma
Applicants who have achieved the Glaucoma Certificate from City University are not required to take the written examination of the College's Certificate in Glaucoma A.
Applicants are required to take the practical examination, submit a clinical portfolio and undertake a viva. The content of the portfolio will be as for Certificate A in Glaucoma, outlined in the Higher Qualification Information Pack.
Achievement of the certificates in diabetes and glaucoma will lead to the award of College's Diploma in Ocular Conditions (DipOC).

Orthoptics
Applicants who have achieved the 'Binocular Vision1' and 'Binocular Vision 2' modules of the MSc in Clinical Optometry from City University are not required to take the written examination of the College certificates in Orthoptics A and Orthoptics B. To qualify for the award of the College Diploma, applicants are required to take the station examination, to submit a clinical portfolio and undertake a viva for both Certificate A and Certificate B.
Low Vision
Applicants who have achieved the 'Visual Impairment' module of the MSc in Clinical Optometry from City University are not required to take the written examination of the College's Low Vision A Certificate.
To qualify for the award of the College Certificate, applicants are required to take the station examination, to submit a clinical portfolio and undertake a viva.
Other Accredited Prior Learning
Candidates who have successfully completed other formal courses of study for MSc modules and certificates in relevant subjects may apply for accredited prior learning counting towards the award of a College certificate. Applications should be submitted to the College for consideration by the Higher Qualifications Validation Board. Recognition can not be granted to courses completed more than five years before the date of application.
