Professional Support

 

An Optometric Adviser provides optometric support to the College in its work to enhance the role of optometrists as providers of primary eye care and provides clinical, professional and ethical advice to Members and others.

Dr Blakeney

 

Dr Susan Blakeney is a practising optometrist and is Optometric Adviser to the nine Primary Care Trusts in Kent. She is Chairman of Lambeth Southwark and Lewisham Local Optical Committee, a member of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich LOC, and attends Kent LOC in her role of Optometric Adviser to the PCTs. She has also completed two law degrees and a PhD. Susan has experience of running training courses and has also published several articles.  Contact Dr Blakeney at the College of Optometrists:

The College provides a Performance Review Scheme for referrals from the GOC’s Investigation Committee, aimed at supporting practitioners who have had a complaint made against them. There is a charge to non-members to use this service.

Framework and Clinical Advice documents are published to help Members in their day to day practice as well as in local negotiations.
