RRD treatment suffers from ‘weekend effect’

Poorer outcomes for patients requiring emergency treatment at weekends – the so-called “weekend effect” – have been described in patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).

US scientists have found that pneumatic retinopexy (PR) for RRD was disproportionately likely to be performed if the patient received a diagnosis or underwent surgery on Friday to Sunday, compared with other days of the week.
