Call for volunteer patients

We are looking for volunteers to take part in clinical workshops at Optometry Tomorrow, the College of Optometrist’s annual conference taking place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole, NEC, on 18 and 19 March. Volunteers will receive a £25 fee per session and be refunded their travel expenses.

Please note:

  • Patients must have the condition stated before committing.
  • All of the optometrists taking part are fully qualified.
  • The sessions are supervised by an experienced practitioner.
  • Patients can volunteer if they are contact lens wearers but they must wear their spectacles during the workshop.
  • Patients are requested to register 30 minutes prior to the workshop start time.

 

Workshop: Binocular Vision

Date:               Sunday 18 March
Time:              2.05pm – 3.05pm & 3.10pm – 4.10pm

We need 3 patients per session (timeslot). We need the following conditions per session:

  • 1 patient with accommodative and convergence problems
  • 1 patient with ocular motility problems, i.e. extraocular muscle palsy
  • 1 patient with phoria at near i.e. exophoria or esophoria.

It would be preferable if patients can volunteer for both workshops.

 

Workshop: Volk

Date:               Sunday 18 March
Times:            9.35am – 10.35am & 10.40am – 11.40am

We need 4 patients for each session (timeslot). Patients do not have to have any specific eye conditions, but their eyes will be dilated.

It would be preferable if patients can volunteer for both workshops.

 

Workshop: Gonioscopy

Date:               Sunday 18 March
Times:            12.05pm – 1.05pm & 3.10pm – 4.10pm

We need 4 patients per session (timeslot). We will need the following conditions per session:

4 patients with glaucoma with a diagnosis of pigment dispersion syndrome, pseudoexfolition, narrow angles, previous glaucoma drainage surgery, angle trauma or any interesting anterior segment eye disease related to glaucoma.

 

Workshop: Topography

Date:               Sunday 18 March
Times:            2.05pm – 3.05pm                    

We need 3 patients for the session. Patients do not have to have any specific eye conditions.

 

Workshop: RGP

Date:               Sunday 18 March
Times:            4.35pm – 5.35pm

We need 3 patients for the session. We require patients that are current rigid gas permeable contact lens wearers.

 

Workshop: OCT

Date:               Monday 19 March
Times:            3.45pm – 4.45pm & 4.50pm – 5.50pm

We need 3 patients per session (timeslot). We require patients with the following conditions:

1 patient with narrow anterior chamber angles OR past peripheral iridotomy OR hyperope over +5DS
1 keratoconic OR past refractive surgery patient
1 rigid gas permeable contact lens wearer OR scleral contact lens wearer

It would be preferable if patients can volunteer for both workshops.

 

Workshop: Tonometry

Date:               Monday 19 March
Times:            3.45pm – 4.45pm & 4.50pm – 5.50pm

We need 4 patients per session (timeslot). We require patients with the following conditions

1 patient diagnosed with glaucoma
2 patients over the age of 18 without any specific eye conditions
1 patient aged 50 or over

It would be preferable if patients can volunteer for both workshops.
