Qualifications are available at three levels, so you can progress to the highest levels of competence in one specific condition, or develop your skills across a range of key topics. If you do choose to progress through the levels, it’s a good idea to spend some time putting your learning at one level into practice before progressing to the next.

  • Professional Certificate - a great way to boost your confidence and skills, and could be a key element in developing a portfolio career or getting more involved in community schemes.

  • Professional Higher Certificate - could enable you to participate in community or hospital-based schemes involving the diagnosis, treatment and management of conditions such as glaucoma, or work in a consultant ophthalmologist-led medical retina service.

  • Professional Diploma - designed for optometrists working in hospital clinics, or for community practitioners looking to offer commissioned services or run specialist clinics.
