We are looking for passionate and experienced supervisors and examiners to join our team of more than 100 assessors across the UK.
Scheme for Registration assessors work closely with the College, supervisors and trainees to maintain quality standards on the Scheme, and to help trainees to prepare for and progress to Final Assessment (OSCE).
As an assessor, you will evaluate trainees’ competence by examining logbooks, witness testimonies, patient records and other evidence, and observe them examining patients. You will provide feedback to the trainee and their supervisor, agree action plans and complete an on-line report about the trainee’s performance. Take a look at the role description for more detailed information on the role.
To apply, you’ll already be an OSCE examiner, or an experienced supervisor who has supported at least three pre-registration trainees, with at least one of your trainees completing the Scheme within the last three years. You’ll be able to show evidence of continuous professional development, and be a member of The College of Optometrists. Training for the role will be provided.
You must be able to commit to assessing five trainees, allowing at least three and a half days for every trainee, typically over a period of eight to 12 months, though this may be longer at the moment due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Assessments take place in the workplace and remotely, so some travel will be required, and you must have reliable broadband access. You will receive a fee of £36.37 per hour, and will be reimbursed for travel expenses.
If you are you looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to become more involved in your profession, this could be the role for you. If you’d like to know more, contact Sophie Harper, Lead Assessor, or Ruth Bennett, Deputy Lead Assessor, for an informal chat about this interesting and rewarding opportunity. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 020 7766 4382.
Please note that we have a greater need for assessors in Scotland, the south east of England, and Greater London. We currently do not require assessors for Northern Ireland, Yorkshire, or the north west of England.
Email your CV (no more than two sides of A4), along with a covering letter (no more than one side of A4) explaining why you want to apply and why you believe you are suitable, to email@example.com.
