About the practice
SpaMedica is the UK’s largest independent sector provider of ophthalmology services, with 48 eye hospitals across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. We employ over 100 specially trained optometrists who lead our outpatient clinics, working closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals, and are looking for more dedicated optometrists to join us as we continue to grow. Our hospital optometrists are at the receiving end of high street referrals, with responsibility for diagnosing eye conditions and making decisions about patient treatment. It is a rewarding role which will suit someone looking for variety in the week, and who prefers a more clinical role to high street practice. Full training and ongoing support are provided, with a career ladder ahead of the successful applicant.
About the role
- Basic salary between £51,459 – £63,664
- Two yearly bonuses, both worth up to 5% of your annual salary (Paid in January and June)
- Time in lieu scheme, if you go over your contracted hours, we will give you your time back
- Work life balance shifts of – Full time 5-day a week starting 9am to 5pm and 1 in 4 Saturday’s- Part time 3 days per week starting 9am to 5pm and 1 in 4 Saturday’s
- 33 days holiday allowance per year, Including Bank Holidays. (Pro-rata for part time)

Key Tasks:
- Conducting pre- and post-operative assessment on patients attending after referral for cataract surgery
- Conducting pre-op assessment on those patients referred for Laser YAG capsulotomy
- Obtaining informed consent in a professional and ethical manner
- Take part in the hospital “on call” and weekend rota
- Undertake intermediate life support (ILS) training
- This role will be based at the Truro clinic, however travel to other sites may be required on occasion and for training, we will pay all expenses occurred during travel off site.
