Share options

1. Affixes your patients will trust

The MCOptom and FCOptom affixes are a sign of your commitment to the highest clinical and ethical standards. We actively encourage the public to look out for these when choosing their optometrist through our media campaigns and our public eye health care website: Lookafteryoureyes.org.

2. Access to expert clinical advice

Our expert advisers are experienced practitioners and are here to provide a prompt answer to all clinical questions.

3. Free quality CET events

Our free regional events are held across the UK and typically comprise topical presentations, thought-provoking peer discussions and opportunities to network with industry experts, colleagues and College representatives. Most events provide a minimum of three interactive CET points. We also run events designed for specific member groups such as newly qualified optometrists and hospital optometrists.

4. Free patient material

Our growing range of patient leaflets are designed to explain a range of common conditions, such as blepharitis and AMD, in a clear and informative way.  We also have tear-off pads on the instillation of eye drops and a handy tear off Amsler chart, as well as children’s stickers and activity books. Members can order these for delivery to their practice – completely free of charge.

5. Free online CET learning

Our quarterly, peer reviewed, practice-based journal Optometry in Practice is packed with research, analysis and opinion. Each online edition comes with multiple choice questions on selected articles, providing up to four CET points. We also have a growing range of multimedia CET programmes available on our new learning area, where you can track your learning and link to the GOC to accept your points.

6. Assessor, examiner and supervisor training and support

We provide all the support you need to be successful in these roles, including training and material for examiners and assessors, and a new online supervisor training course.

7. Practical and financial support for members undertaking research

Each year, we provide more then £250,000 in funding to community, university and hospital-based researchers, as well as offering advice and support on developing practice-based research.

8. Exclusive support for higher qualifications

Our higher qualifications are ideal for those looking to progress in their careers and offer specialist services and we offer exclusive member support and resources, such as the innovative online IP logbook - to make life easier for you while you complete them.
