Are commonplace optometric activities evidence-based?

This paper discusses common interventions which are often used in optometric practice, and asks whether the evidence used to justify them is objective.

In this paper, we consider the strength of evidence underlying 10 commonplace interventions in community optometric practice. We ask whether, for each intervention, there is a Cochrane review to support the intervention. If there is no Cochrane review, we attempt to comment on whether there are RCTs which allow preliminary conclusions to be drawn about whether the evidence base is sufficiently robust for it to be feasible for such a review to reach a firm conclusion.
