Abstract

This article discusses the registration level of children and young people in the UK, and the causes of visual impairment in the UK and developing countries. Education for children with visual impairment and low-vision provision for children and young people are also considered. In addition the article highlights the need to work within a multidisciplinary team to provide the best support for the child and also the importance of the use of technology. Finally the article provides the results of an audit of the low-vision service at a UK-based hospital.
