About the webinar

This one-hour webinar, funded by Docet and managed by The College of Optometrists, aims to enhance the confidence of community optometrists in their leadership role. This session will equip them with a greater understanding of the evolving regulatory landscape.

The presenter will cover the following areas:

Reminder of optometrists' leadership role, accountabilities, and responsibilities:

  • For ensuring safe clinical care
  • For effectively managing complaints.

Preventing and managing patient concerns through three real patient cases:

  • Presentation of cases: from start to resolution
  • Details on the regulatory landscape related to each case
  • Advice on how to manage the situation in practice.

Question and Answer session

At the end of the webinar Richard Edwards will answer some of the live questions raised during the talk.

Speaker(s)

Richard Edwards MCOptom

Richard Edwards MCOptom qualified as an optometrist in 1987 and was Director of Professional Services at Boots Opticians before launching OPTOMiSE Consulting in 2014. 

He led the Learning and Development function at Boots before taking up the role of Professional Services Director. 

Richard has recently completed his eight-year commission on the GOC Expert Advisory Panel and now works as a consultant to a number of optical and regulatory organisations. 

He is Clinical Consultant to the Optical Consumer Complaints Service (OCCS) and has lectured internationally on the subject of optical complaint management.

  • To attend this webinar you must be a GOC registered optometrist.
  • To obtain your interactive CPD point you must ensure the following standards are met, you must:
    • have a minimum attendance of 50 minutes
    • complete a minimum of 4 of the 6 polls.

Students and pre-registration trainees are not eligible to attend this webinar.
