About the event

This session is also for those who want to gain more confidence in interpreting common abnormalities. It will cover basic OCT terminology/interpretation, explore different scan types and provide an overview of the most common abnormalities you will encounter. Throughout the session a range of different scan outputs will be reviewed as well as evidence from research and emerging guidance on clinical practice.

s.5 - Keep your knowledge and skills up to date
- Understand OCT imaging principles, ability to identify retinal layers of OCT cross-sectional outputs, and ability to identify common abnormalities on a range of different OCT outputs.

s.6 - Recognise, and work within, your limits of competence
- Ability to identify common abnormalities and understands their importance for clinical decision making (in accordance with current guidance).

s.7 - Conduct appropriate assessments, examinations, treatments and referrals
- Ability to choose suitable OCT protocols for diagnostic and monitoring purposes
- Understand and ability to interpret the numerical outputs of OCT scans under consideration of their limitations and in context with other clinical data available.


Rebekka Heitmar

Rebekka is a German trained GOC registered Optometrist. Following her PhD at Aston University she continued as a lecturer teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Optometry at Aston University and more recently the University of Huddersfield. Rebekka's research is focussed on retinal imaging both with a focus on methodology and clinical interpretation/ application.

  • To attend this webinar you must be a College of Optometrists member.
  • To be eligible for your interactive CPD point you must ensure the following standards are met, you must:
    • have a minimum attendance of 50 minutes
    • complete a minimum of 4 of the 6 polls
    • complete the post event feedback

CPD does not apply to students and pre-registration trainees.
