College response to Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust story

In response to today’s news story about Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust in special measures because of long wait times for patients, the College of Optometrists has issued the following statement:

Jo Mullin, Director of Strategy and Policy at the College of Optometrists said; “We are working urgently with others in the eye health sector to find ways of releasing capacity in the hospital eye service, including ways of allowing appropriate patients to be monitored in the community.  The Clinical Council for Eye Health Commissioning has developed a Community Ophthalmology Framework, which outlines how ophthalmology services could be provided in the community which may be of interest to trusts and commissioners around the country.”
