The College of Optometrists is the professional body for optometry. It qualifies the profession and delivers the guidance and development to ensure optometrists provide the best possible care. We promote excellence through the College’s affixes, by building the evidence base for optometry, and raising awareness of the profession with the public, commissioners, and healthcare professionals.

We are looking for an Education Coordinator who will join our established and busy Education team. This role will provide support for the development and delivery of our Final Assessment qualifications and assist with organising and delivering key meetings for the lifecycle of our examination content.

Reporting to the Education Manager (Examinations) the role holder will be responsible for:

  • Question bank development across the Scheme for Registration and Independent Prescribing examinations
  • Liaising with Subject Matter Expert and Writing groups to establish quick and effective outputs
  • Scheduling monthly question development meetings
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal colleagues and Subject Matter Experts
  • Support the day-to-day delivery of OSCE examinations
  • Monitoring and responding to emails and enquiries received 
  • Carrying out general administrative duties.

Successful candidates would need to demonstrate the following skills, experience and knowledge: 

  • The ability to prioritise duties, and seek clarification and guidance from line manager when faced with competing responsibilities
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate written materials and provide clear verbal explanations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop good working relationships within a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a self-directed manner, asking for help as needed
  • Experience in a similar role in an education/qualification delivery setting
  • Experience in meeting organisation, minute taking and meeting administration.

Additional information

  • Typical working hours at the College are 9 am to 5 pm (7 hours, excluding lunch) working five days a week. We operate a flexible working window from 8 am to 6 pm where you can vary your start and end time (working a 7 hour day). This role is flexible and can be worked over a variety of working patterns.
  • We also offer hybrid working (a mixture of home and office working). Typically College staff will work around 20 - 40% of their time within our London office.
