College Clinical Adviser receives honour from Princess Royal at Investiture Ceremony

The College’s Clinical Adviser, Daniel Hardiman-McCartney MBE FCOptom, collected his MBE at an Investiture Ceremony in Windsor Castle on 28 February. He was presented the insignia by The Princess Royal, Princess Anne.

He was awarded the honour for services to optometry in the late Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2022.

Speaking after the ceremony, Daniel said: “I was delighted and humbled to receive the award from Princess Anne. I hope it reflects growing recognition, by decision-makers and the public, of the vital contribution that all optometrists and optical teams make, their tireless work to help people to see better and to diagnosis, manage and treat eye diseases.

“I hope this award inspires the whole profession as we gain ever greater recognition and continue to bring optometry to the forefront of people’s minds.

“The ceremony presented a great opportunity for me to speak about optometry and all of the things the profession is doing to provide high quality, accessible eye care to local communities.”
