Description: This workshop discusses cases that present as ocular emergancies, including the assessment, management and appropriate referral. Cases include the following areas: - Assessment and management of ocular trauma and acid attack to the eyes - Foreign body removal and identifying features of intraocular foreign bodies - Differential diagnosis of endophthalmitis versus inflammation - Identification of Orbital Cellulitis;

- Understand the different classifications of Ocular Surface Burns
s.6 Recognise, and work within, your limits of competence
- Understand when to refer and the urgency of referral for emergency eye conditions
S.7 Conduct appropriate assessments, examinations, treatments and referrals
- Able to assess and manage ocular emergencies such as acid attack, eye trauma and endophthalmitis appropriately
Specialty CPD - AS/SP/IP optometrist
Understands the therapeutic prescribing options available for IP optometrists for ocular emergencies such as chemical trauma and DIY injuries

Dr Amritpal Chaggar MCOptom

Dr Chaggar has worked in the hospital eye service for over 17 years in a number of extended subspecialty roles including emergency eye clinics and undertaking interventions. He has an avid passion for education and development having been a successful pre-registration optometrist supervisor and workplace assessor for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists for over 10 ten years. He has also taught at a variety of higher education institutions for over ten years at postgraduate level supporting the development and evolution of an array of healthcare professionals including nurses, paramedics, optometrists and doctors.
