Webinar - Preventing Falls: The Importance of the Right Spectacles

About the event

Falls are one of the most serious health risks facing older people, yet many eye care professionals may be unaware of the complex relationship between vision, spectacle correction and fall risk.

Join Professor David Elliott, recipient of the 2026 President's Research Medal, for this exclusive webinar. The President's Research Medal recognises and celebrates outstanding contributions to research and honours a lifetime career in optometric, eye health or vision science research.

In this year's President's Medal Lecture, Professor Elliott will explore:

  • the evidence linking vision and falls in older people
  • why improving vision alone does not always reduce fall risk
  • how clinicians can make prescribing decisions that help keep patients safe and independent

You will also have a chance to ask questions in the Live Q&A.

Domains and learning outcomes

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand the prevalence of falls in older people
  • To understand the consequences of falls in older people
  • To understand the link between vision and falls in the elderly
