CLiP placements
Job application process
CLiP placements are managed through the College’s CLiP Portal, which is used to advertise placement opportunities for students and to manage the selection process. Employers will be able to use the CLiP Portal to create a vacancy, view and manage applications and offer the role to the CLiP student they want to employ.
The CLiP Portal allows the College to manage the overall application process, introducing general timelines and deadlines for all applications. It also limits students to holding only one offer at a time, with a time limit to accept or reject it.
The job applications rounds will be organised to set timeframes each year, starting with first round applications opening at the end of January.
CLiP employment contracts
The CLiP student’s employment contract needs to meet these criteria:
- a fixed term employment contract to a student for around a year, starting in January or July, with a minimum term of 11 months
- the student is employed in the practice for four weekdays each week and is allowed a learning day on another weekday, which may or may not be paid
- the working arrangements are for between 28 – 31 hours each week spread roughly equally over four weekdays, allowing the fifth weekday (day to be agreed) to be used as a learning day
Expectations for the placement
Employers offering a CLiP work-based learning placement to a student will agree to the following:
- providing the consulting room and required equipment for patient consultation for at least 20 hours a week of the student’s working time
- arranging at least one employee, who is suitably qualified and experienced, to supervise a student
- ensuring all supervising employees meet College requirements and can be given the required time and resources to fulfil the duties of this role
- including cover for the student under public liability insurance for the practice
For a fuller description of the placement expectations, see the CLiP Employer Handbook.
