Aperture

APERTURE is a service of the British Optical Association Museum at the College of Optometrists, aiding users to access suitable ophthalmic heritage content elsewhere on the Web. In this way we hope to 'open out' the subject to the widest possible audience. You can also find out about our partner optical museums across the globe. It may surprise you to discover how many there are. Where appropriate we also include pointers to relevant organisations and learned societies.

Web Gateway

Welcome to APERTURE the web gateway for optical history sites. This page provides an opening onto the rest of the web for sites with content relating to the science and history of optics or ophthalmic antiques.

Ophthalmic Antiques International Collectors' Club

The OAICC was founded in 1982 by the optician Derek C. Davidson (1914-1999) on behalf of all those who take an interest in collecting the material evidence for our optical past. It is an independent learned society but with extremely close links to the College and BOA Museum.

London Museums of Health and Medicine

The London Museums of Health and Medicine (LMoHM) is a consortium of specialist museums in the British capital, several of which, like the BOA Museum, are to be found housed in the headquarters of medical examining colleges and professional bodies. The group was founded in 1991 and our museum has been a member since 1998.
