Consumer information channels for contact lens wearers

Volume 24, Issue 1
This paper explores trends in where patients seek information on contact lenses, who has the most influence on their decision making and the perceived importance of the patient–practitioner relationship.
Information regarding eye care and eye wear options can be readily accessed across various media channels. The use of digital communication channels is rapidly evolving, although our understanding of how influential this is with potential and existing contact lens wearers is limited. Despite contact lenses being medical devices that require a registered practitioner to fit and dispense, there is a risk that patients will seek guidance from unregulated sources. Understanding patient preferences and habits for sourcing contact lens information enables the tailoring of advice and education by practitioners to support optimum lens selection and safe successful contact lens wear and to enhance patient satisfaction.
