Rima Evans speaks to the optometrists who have forged an academic career.

A career in academia can hold great appeal for optometrists who wish to further the evidence base upon which patient care is delivered, and so raise the quality of eye services. Of course, a career in research doesn’t necessitate a return to the lecture hall – the College still offers its annual Small Grants Scheme, which provides members with advice and up to £5,000 for small research projects for practitioners who wish to continue working while carrying out research.
