“Ensuring that optometry is seen as a vital and equal partner to plan and deliver Neighbourhood Health Services presents a significant opportunity to improve patient outcomes, reduce demand on hospital eye services, and address health inequalities. Without this change, hospitals will continue to struggle to meet the needs of our communities, and patients will continue to suffer avoidable sight loss.
“Now everything rests on how the government will work with all parts of the health and care system to effectively fund and deliver its commitments. The College looks forward to working collaboratively with NHS leaders, local commissioners, our members and other health professionals to support the successful implementation of enhanced eye care delivery across England.”
Dr Gillian Rudduck MCOptom, President of The College of Optometrists
