Introduction

The last few years have seen extensive changes in the regulation of all healthcare professionals, it is fair to say, instigated by the awful truth uncovered during the Shipman inquiry. Health professionals are now more accountable for their actions and can no longer rely solely on the phrase ‘professional judgement’. In present times the public have become less deferential and more demanding of the professions.
