Specsavers in Consett first opened its doors over 20 years ago. The practice sits in a prominent position on the main high street and is firmly embedded within the local community. The store is located in the heart of the vibrant town of Consett, a pretty countryside, top of hill location. Consett sits above the Derwent Valley, where there are excellent sailing and fishing clubs. The countryside surrounding the town is stunning with the edge of the Pennines and Derwent reservoir within easy reach. There are excellent transport links with a mainline railway station within walking distance of the store and access to the A68 and A1 nearby. With new housing being developed in the area, Consett is a convenient commuter village to Newcastle and Durham, both around 15 miles away.
About the role
As a pre-registration optometrist, you will work under the supervision of a qualified optometrist to complete the GOC pre-registration training program. This role is designed to develop your clinical skills, commercial awareness, and patient care while working towards full qualification and registration with the General Optical Council (GOC).
Key responsibilities:
- deliver high-quality eye care services to patients under supervision, including eye examinations, contact lens fittings, and aftercare
- apply theoretical knowledge in real-world clinical settings, progressively taking on more responsibility throughout the pre-reg year
- maintain accurate and thorough patient records in line with GOC standards and practice policy
- assist with the dispensing and fitting of spectacles and contact lenses
- gain experience in diagnosing and managing a variety of ocular conditions, with referral guidance from supervising optometrists
- complete all elements of The College of Optometrists' Scheme for Registration, including Stage One, Stage Two assessments, and the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)
- engage in reflective practice, logbooks, and performance reviews as part of your ongoing professional development
- contribute to the day-to-day operation of the practice, including assisting with reception and administrative duties as required
