Specsavers in Consett first opened its doors over 20 years ago and sits in a prominent position on the main high street and is firmly embedded within the local community.

There is an onsite lab and Lab Manager as well as four test rooms all equipped with the latest clinical technology including OCT. They offer enhanced clinical services such as cataract referrals, MECS, IOP refinement and children’s school screening.
The store is located in the heart of the vibrant town of Consett, a pretty countryside, top of hill location. Consett sits above the Derwent Valley, where there are excellent sailing and fishing clubs. The countryside surrounding the town is stunning with the edge of the Pennines and Derwent reservoir within easy reach. There are excellent transport links with a mainline railway station within walking distance of the store and access to the A68 and A1 nearby.
With new housing being developed in the area, Consett is a convenient commuter village to Newcastle and Durham, both around 15 miles away.

As a Pre-Registration Optometrist, you’ll be joining a practice that is committed to your success — clinically, professionally, and personally. You’ll work in a fast-paced, supportive environment where you’ll gain experience across a wide variety of eye conditions and patient needs.
What you’ll be doing:
- Perform full eye examinations under supervision, developing your clinical and communication skills
- Support contact lens fittings, aftercare appointments, and dispensing
- Work alongside your dedicated supervisor and clinical team to prepare for Stage One, Stage Two, and OSCE assessments
- Learn to manage a busy clinic while always delivering first-class patient care
- Use the latest diagnostic technology, including OCT and digital retinal photography, as part of your training
- Contribute to a positive and energetic team environment with a customer-first approach

What we’re looking for:
- Final year optometry student (BSc or MOptom) or graduate ready to begin your pre-reg placement in 2025
- Passionate about patient care and driven to become a clinically excellent optometrist
- Willingness to work in a team and take feedback positively
- Good organisation, time management, and communication skills. Provisional GOC registration in place or in progress
