How would you help a depressed colleague?

Firstly, if I suspected a colleague was depressed, I would approach them privately to ask how they are, with a human and empathetic approach. I would listen to how they are feeling and ask how I can support them. I would offer a safe space outside the workplace, perhaps providing a listening ear over a coffee or going for a walk.

I would gently signpost to available resources and encourage them to seek further support such as their GP, or encourage them to speak to their manager to ensure that the work environment does not contribute in a negative way. Practically, I would also offer support with their duties and workload.
