I believe audit can be best used in practice to improve clinical care and support practitioners in identifying areas for improvement or even to promote discussion at a practice level. At Primary Eyecare Services, we have developed a Practice Audit Dashboard that allows practices to benchmark themselves in terms of clinical service delivery, encouraging them to see how they are performing against peers in areas such as source of referrals into services and onward referrals to secondary care or GPs.

From this, practices can consider how they may need to alter their systems and processes and ultimately improve care for their patients.
