An examination of the links between smoking and eye disease.

Background

The link between smoking and eye disease has received considerable recent media attention, and has been the focus of a high-profile advertising campaign from the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB; Figure 1). This paper will review the scientific background of smoking and eye disease. Smoking cessation strategies will be discussed, as will mechanisms for referring patients to local services.
