Description: This session aims to explore the basics of OCT to help detect and identify abnormalities. The delegate will be introduced to the different types of OCT scans/protocols available and their interpretation while considering potential pitfalls and limitations. Using case examples, we will discuss the choice of scan type and how to use the visual and numerical outcome data and its use for clinical assessment and follow up.

- Understand OCT imaging principles

- Able to identify retinal layers on OCT cross-sectional outputs and identify common abnormalities

- Able to choose suitable OCT scans for diagnostic and monitoring purposes

- Understands and able to interpret the numerical outputs of OCT scans, with consideration of their limitations and in context with other clinical data available

Dr Rebekka Heitmar MCOptom Prof Cert Med Ret

Rebekka is a German trained GOC registered Optometrist. Following her PhD at Aston University she continued as a lecturer teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Optometry at Aston University and more recently the University of Huddersfield. Rebekka's research is focused on retinal imaging both with a focus on methodology and clinical interpretation/ application.
