BCLA Fellowship presentation

The BCLA Fellowship scheme recognises contributions and commitments in the field of contact lenses and the anterior eye. It allows them to use the post nominal letters FBCLA, which shows their commitment to the Association and significant contribution they have made within these specialist areas. Since the scheme was launched in 2006 over 200 professionals from the international community of contact lens practice, academia and industry have become BCLA Fellows.

The new BCLA Fellows of 2024 will be formally admitted at the Optometry Tomorrow now incorporating BCLA Focus conference.

Chairs

Dr Sònia Travé Huarte FBCLA

Dr. Sònia Travé Huarte is a postdoctoral researcher and optometrist at Aston University. She specialises in dry eye diagnostics and treatments, anterior ocular surface disease management, specialty contact lenses, Meibomian gland dysfunction and corneal pain. She is also a clinical supervisor on the optometry programme at Aston University.

She is an associate fellow of the higher education academy and the fellowship lead for the British Contact Lens Association. Sònia is inspired daily by new treatment innovations, research, and best evidence-base treatment care for her patients.

Rakesh Kapoor BSc(HONS) MBA FCOptom FBCLA FEAOO Prof Cert Glau

Rakesh initially joined Specsavers in 1994, becoming a store partner in Wembley. Now also a partner in Wembley Park, Edgware and Stanmore In 2000 he completed an MBA degree and, more recently, a Prof Cert in Glaucoma. An experienced College supervisor, he is actively involved in Specsavers Pre-Reg Academy, having designed, and led the pre-reg contact lens course and delivered the pathology course.

During his portfolio career, he has been the NHS Ophthalmic Adviser for London, GOC fitness to practice member, a visiting lecturer at City and Anglia Ruskin, a board member of Brent CCG, a College of Optometrist Councillor (representing London), and previously a Clinical Performance Consultant for Specsavers and as well as the chair for Specsavers London Division.
