Description

This session, which takes place within the exhibition hall on the company stands using headsets to listen, comprises of two parts. 

Part one: Contact lens discomfort is a leading reason for contact lens dropout. Despite advancing technologies and expertise, patients are still becoming dissatisfied with contact lenses and discontinuing wear. In this part of the session, we will discuss reasons for contact lens dropout and see the statistics behind this. We will look at when dropout is most likely to occur, and what strategies we can put in place to stop this and provide patients with the best solutions to their lifestyles. We will also be looking at best practice in terms of communication with the patient. 

Part Two: This part of the session will help optometrists identify, diagnose and manage complications following cataract surgery.

Speakers

Buki Anthony

Buki is an optometrist graduating from the University of Manchester with a Masters in Optometry. Over the last 15 years, she has developed her clinical experience across independent and hospital practice. Throughout her career she has had experience with a wide variety of contact lenses, including specialist areas such as Scleral, Keratoconic and Orthokeratology. Buki started her educational presenting as a Contact Lens Clinic Supervisor at City University London as well as delivering in-house training to support staff within independent practices. She has supervised Contact Lens Opticians and Dispensing Opticians during their Pre-Registration training Programme. In her 7 years at Alcon, she has coached numerous practitioners and their staff in developing their skillset to effectively manage their contact lens patients. More recently, she has honed her skills in Business sales strategy giving her a holistic approach to the contact lens industry.

Tom Critchley

Tom is the Principal Optometrist for Spamedica. He is a strong advocate for the optometry profession, being passionate to ensure all patients are treated with clinical excellence and compassion. Tom has worked in the cataract and refractive field for over fifteen years, and uses that experience to lead the training for his large team of optometrists to ensure they continue his high standards.

Alexandra Vann

Alexandra is the National Lead Optometrist in the cataract service for SpaMedica. She has been with SpaMedica for 8 years and has progressed the ranks from Hospital Optometrist to Regional Lead Optometrist to most recently, National Lead Optometrist. Within this time Alex has gained her Professional Certificate in Medical Retina and Independent Prescribing qualifications. With her experience and clinical knowledge Alex manages and leads her large team of Optometrists with significant focus on maintaining the highest standard of clinical care.
