Valuable online resources offered by The College of Optometrists

As an optometry student some of the most useful resources available to us come from The College of Optometrists. They have a range of online resources designed to support students as well as optometrists in their development both academically as well as professionally.

Guidance for Professional Practice

One such resource is the Guidance for Professional Practice which helps support clinical and professional decision-making across all practice settings, and ensures patients' interests are prioritised.

Ethical scenarios

The College also provides ethical scenario questions which are designed to test your knowledge of this guidance, whilst encouraging critical thinking and better your confidence in dealing with certain ethical dilemmas.

Clinical Management Guidelines

Another key resource are the Clinical Management Guidelines (CMGs) which provide information on the symptoms and treatment of a range of conditions, enabling optometrists to make evidence-based clinical decisions in practice regarding differential diagnosis, management, and referral. As a student, it is incredibly important to establish a strong foundation in these aspects, to build on them as we progress in our degree.

These are just a few of the numerous resources the College offers, which together helps to encourage both students and qualified optometrists to remain clinically competent, ethically minded and patient focused.
