Exam tips and resources

Exams can be quite stressful, but a little prep and some habits can help a lot.

Start early

Don’t leave it to the last minute. Easier said than done but like just starting and breaking it down can make it a lot easier to learn when it comes to the exam.

Active learning

Don’t just read your notes or the lecture slides over and over again, summarising them and explaining them out loud helps you remember them a lot better.

Practice papers

Try finding past exam or sample questions. They literally tell you what is likely to come up and how the marks are allocated. Writing out the answers and thinking it out also like helps you remember it.

Stay organised

Keep track of when your exams are, make a study plan or something and stick to it!! Keep on top of your notes as well, putting them into your own words can help your understanding.

Look after yourself

Stay calm and relaxed. Get plenty of sleep and spend some time outside between studying. You gotta be in top form to do anything good.

Study groups

Get your friends and study together. Ask each other questions and explain anything you don’t understand. I find it easier to ask friends then lecture and it helps my understanding so much. It is also so much more fun even though it may not be the most productive.

The library

This is great for getting notes done, nice and quiet, no distractions. Seeing everyone else studying is also quite motivating and they have resources as well to help you.

Counselling

If the stress is getting too bad, go talk to someone. Whether it be a friend, lecturer or the college counsellors, find someone. They are there to help and things will not seem as bad.
