College Representative - Optometry Scotland

College vacancy Scotland Volunteer Apply by 21 May 2025

We are seeking a College member to act as College Representative to Optometry Scotland. This voluntary position is open to our members practising in Scotland.

About Optometry Scotland

Optometry Scotland is the representative body for the optical industry in Scotland and is the voice of the optical professions. 

Optometry Scotland is the first point of contact for all health official and external bodies in Scotland and represents the optical sector in Scotland. As the voice of the optical professions, Optometry Scotland’s objective is to preserve the integrity of GOS.

The role

As our representative, you will be expected to:

  • attend Optometry Scotland Board meetings 
    • Board meetings are remote, but there may also be one or two in-person meetings
    • Board meetings are scheduled in advance, generally the last Monday of the month, every 2 months, from 6pm to 8pm
  • attend Optometry Scotland Council meetings:
    • Council meetings take place three times a year, generally on Wednesdays 2-4pm
    • Council meetings are also scheduled in advance. The remaining 2025 meetings will take place on 25 June and 29 October. The October meeting will be slightly longer as it will include the AGM
  • proactively contribute to discussions with senior leaders in the eye care sector
  • potentially be involved with small working groups and committees, which may produce reports

Who we are looking for

You will:

  • be a member of the College and practising in Scotland
  • have knowledge of the provision of eyecare services in Scotland
  • be able to commit to meetings

Additional information

This is a voluntary position.

Reasonable travel expenses will be covered by the College, as per our reimbursement policy.
