About CIE-UK and the International Commission on Illumination (CIE)
The International Commission on Illumination, or CIE (Commission Internationale de l´Eclairage), is the global epicentre for knowledge exchange in light, lighting, colour, vision, photobiology, and image technology. CIE-UK, the National Illumination Committee of Great Britain, plays a pivotal role in shaping technical policies, overseeing national participation in CIE's technical initiatives, and sharing crucial information with members. Your role and responsibilities
As the College of Optometrists' representative to CIE-UK, you will:
- lend optometric expertise: Leverage your optometric knowledge to contribute to Technical Committees that craft Technical Reports and Standards for the lighting industry
- travel to attend CIE-UK meetings within the UK, usually held biannually
- shape international standards: Collaborate with international experts virtually and with occasional in-person meetings to influence the development of global lighting standards
- engage with the College, as needed, to seek the College’s views to inform the work or decisions of the committee
- consult the College before endorsing or approving on behalf of the College any document produced by the subgroup
- keep the College updated about the activities and decisions of the subgroup
Who we are looking for
- Optometrist: Membership of The College of Optometrists is essential
- Technical inclination: Interest and knowledge in lighting, colour, and vision
- Effective communication: Ability to engage in virtual and occasional face-to-face discussions
Additional information
- This is a voluntary position
- Reasonable travel expenses will be covered by the College, as per our reimbursement policy
