As a Charity, the College Board of Trustees has full legal and fiduciary responsibility for the College, ensuring that the College complies with relevant legislation. Trustees must always act in good faith and have collective accountability.
The Board sets the direction of the College through the strategy, business plans (resources) and by managing risk. The Board delegates some decision making to the College's other committees.
All trustees make a commitment to Nolan’s seven principles of public life: selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
The Board of Trustees is made up of:
- four elected officers
- six regionally elected Council members
- one lay Council member.
The Board can co-opt up to three additional Trustees, with Council’s approval.

Alongside his academic endeavours, Professor Davies has played an active role in advancing optometry through professional leadership, editorial contributions, and public engagement. He has served as Clinical Editor of Optometry Today, Editor-in-Chief of Optometry in Practice, and on the editorial board of BioMed Research International. In 2022, he was Optometry Clinical Lead at the Commonwealth Games, and he co-created Villa Vision, an innovative mobile eye care service developed with Aston Villa FC Foundation and Essilor Vision for Life to improve access to eye care in the community. His contributions have been recognised through various awards including the inaugural Neil Charman Medal and a Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community.

She is currently Dean of the School of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire, leading a large multidisciplinary portfolio encompassing optometry, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, midwifery, allied health professions, social work, psychology, biosciences and public health and sport science.
Irene has made a substantial contribution to the development of optometric education and professional standards in the UK and internationally. She has served on the College Council since 2018, was Chair of the Education and Standards Committee before being elected Vice President and now serves as President of the College. Through these roles she has helped shape professional standards, education policy and the future direction of the profession, working closely with universities, regulators, professional bodies and healthcare partners.

Kathryn qualified from Glasgow Caledonian University in 1999 and has worked in Grampian in North East Scotland ever since for both multiple and independent practices. She has supervised pre-registration optometrists in her early career and moved to Professional Services Manager of a large independent group where she mentors and supports optometrists and dispensing opticians at all stages of their career. In this role she has been involved in service development in the practices as well as locally with the Grampian Eye Health Network, where optometry has been the first port of call for all patients with acute eye problems since 2007. She is past Vice-Chair of Grampian AOC, and is an active member of Optometry Scotland which has recently negotiated a new GOS contract for Scotland. She achieved Independent Prescribing status in 2013.

She has supervised pre-registration optometrists in her early career and moved to Professional Services Manager of a large independent group where she mentors and supports optometrists and dispensing opticians at all stages of their career. In this role she has been involved in service development in the practices as well as locally with the Grampian Eye Health Network, where optometry has been the first port of call for all patients with acute eye problems since 2007. She is past Vice-Chair of Grampian AOC, and is an active member of Optometry Scotland which has recently negotiated a new GOS contract for Scotland. She achieved Independent Prescribing status in 2013.
She regularly holds peer reviews following accreditation as a College Facilitator and hosts CET events locally. She was elected College Council Member in March 2019.

Since 2014 he has provided advisory and interim support to organisations in both the UK and overseas including regulation, strategy, growth and transition through periods of change. Most recently he has provided support to clients in the healthcare sector, a charity providing humanitarian support and a technology group. His non-executive roles have included international regulatory advisory and training organisation.

Andrew Kitchen BSc (Hons) ACMA MBA
Andrew is Chief Finance Officer for a leading global Asset Management firm and has 30 years of experience spanning Investment Banking, Wealth, and Asset Management. He is a UK Chartered Management Accountant, holds an MBA from London Business School, a Masters in Wealth Management from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment and a BSC (Hons) degree in Banking & Finance from Loughborough University. Andrew has a very keen interest in optometry as a result of historic and ongoing eye problems which have brought him into close contact with the profession.
