City Sight Clinic is committed to bringing optometry training to the City of London through a state-of-the-art teaching facility for undergraduate and postgraduate Optometrists. Our aim is to provide eye care services to the City, University of London community and beyond, helping our students gain key clinical experience. An important aspect of the training provided is the supervised work that our students undertake with members of the public. To assist in the provision of clinical excellence, we are seeking clinically focused optometrists to supervise students in the clinics and support their educational development.
Successful candidates can be Optometrists, Contact lens Opticians, Dispensing Opticians and Orthoptists who have experience of supporting and supervising optometry students in clinical practice and have an interest in teaching. This role requires you to be a GOC registered optometrist with at least 2 years continuous registration. Full training and support will be provided. In addition to routine refraction clinics, applicants should be confident in the provision of care in one (or more) of the following areas: paediatric eye care, orthoptics, contact lens provision, low vision services, OCT, Goldmann tonometry, ocular surface disease and therapeutics.
Primary care clinics run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact lens clinics run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. BV and Paeds clinics run on Thursdays.
The role is varied and includes opportunities to teach in small groups, provide 1:1 support, advance students’ clinical competencies and enhance your own knowledge by being part of a team of supervisors; all of whom have areas of expertise and interest of their own.
The pay is approx. £32.85 per hour and it's a commitment of 22 weeks in total.
The term dates are as below:
- Mandatory VCT Induction 12th and 14th September.
- Student induction 19 - 29th September.
- Term 1: 2nd October 2023 -15th December 2023.
- Term 2: 15th January 2024 – 15th April 2024.
