Represent your region on College Council - nominations now open

Becoming a College Council member is a great opportunity to represent your colleagues, promote your profession, and help shape the future of optometry.

The work of the Council is particularly important during this period of change for the sector. We want to ensure the profession gets the recognition it deserves and continues to be valued and heard during all vital policy and healthcare discussions and decisions.

Council members' role

Our Council members ensure that we remain true to our belief in ‘professional excellence in eye health’ and accountable to our members, by:

  • bringing members’ views to the attention of the College
  • sharing the College’s thinking, direction, and activity within the region
  • providing leadership for their region by participating in local meetings as the representative of the College
  • participating in Council meetings three times each year – including the election meeting held at the College’s annual conference
  • electing the President, Vice President, and Trustees
  • having the opportunity to join one of the College’s committees, working groups, or reference groups
  • supporting College events in their region
  • contributing to the College’s public relations activity including acting as a spokesperson
