The College launches new CPD course on AI essentials for smarter optometry administration

The new continuing professional development (CPD) course, Smarter optometry admin: AI essentials for your practice back office, is designed to help optometrists and eye care professionals understand how AI can support everyday administrative and communication tasks in their practices. 

As AI tools become increasingly common across eye care settings, the new course aims to build AI literacy and confidence, helping professionals use these tools and applications effectively for non-clinical tasks. By streamlining administrative processes, AI can help free up valuable time, allowing optometrists to focus more on delivering high-quality patient care. 

The course explores practical ways AI can support tasks such as improving efficiency, managing communications and assisting with day-to-day practice administration, the benefits and limitations of AI, and how to use it safely and responsibly in professional practice

One CPD point is available for qualified College members and Associate members on completion of the course. Students and pre-registration trainees can also access the training. The course supports the General Optical Council (GOC) domains of Professionalism and Communication, helping members develop skills that are increasingly relevant in a changing healthcare landscape.
