We are currently looking to recruit one or more Visiting Clinical Tutor(s) (VCT) to help with teaching the Introduction to Optometry, First Year and Second Year Clinical Skills labs. These roles involve supervising and supporting foundation-year, first-year and second-year undergraduate Optometry students as they learn about techniques used by optometrists in a supervised environment. The Clinical Skills labs are part of our suite of purpose-built, teaching facilities committed to delivering outstanding optometric education. Our dynamic teaching model blends academic knowledge with hands-on practical skills, ensuring our students are ready to progress to the next level of their training and, in the case of second-year students, that they are equipped to see real patients under supervision in the City Sight Clinic during their third year.
As a Visiting Clinical Tutor, you will play a key part in shaping the clinical and professional skills of our students. You will:
- Provide group clinical teaching and supervision
- Provide tutorials in half groups as and when required
- Support students in the development of their refraction and investigative skills techniques
- Participate in clinical assessments and provide student feedback
- Work as part of a team of experienced clinicians.
We are looking for optometrists who:
- Are GOC registered
- Have an interest in education and student development
- Have experience supporting or supervising students in clinical practice
Are confident in the following areas:
- Refraction techniques
- Investigative techniques

Start date: Monday 29th September 2025
Requirements: Commitment of 21 weeks (i.e. every week during term time).
Term dates: 29th Sept 2025 to 15th December 2025 and 26th January 2025 to 13th April 2026
Working pattern: Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays: 6 hours per day 9.00-4.00pm.
Remuneration: Approx. £35 per hour
