DISCUSSION WORKSHOP: Talking comfort 2 - Johnson & Johnson Vision

Discussion workshop

CPD ref: C-101806

Description: What causes contact lens wearers to experience discomfort? And why do 73% of patients experiencing discomfort not plan to talk to their eye care professional about it? This session will explore the many opportunities to improve retention among both new and established contact lens wearers. Using patient scenarios, this discussion workshop will look at the ways practitioners can identify and maximise contact lens patient satisfaction by taking a patient centred approach to contact lens recommendation and management.

This discussion workshop will encourage delegates to consider ways in which they can identify and maximise contact lens patient satisfaction. Focussing on contact lens retention, this workshop will use patient cases to allow discussion around the importance of a careful patient history and symptom taking in both new and established contact lens wearers. It will also look at the clinical investigations available to practitioners in practice, and how both the interpretation of these clinical findings, and a sound knowledge of contact lens material properties can allow a patient centred approach to contact lens fitting and management,

Peer interaction will be encouraged by the facilitator.

This session will be delivered multiple times in various settings.

-  There will be group sizes of 4-10 per facilitator and it may also be led from the front with a nominated facilitator on each table.

- The material for this discussion workshop has been devised using current guidelines for best practice, including the GOC standards of practice. There is no commercial bias, the emphasis will be on how an adequate assessment of a patient’s lifestyle, vision and ocular health allow us as clinicians to make the most appropriate contact lens recommendation for the patient based on their requirements and planned use.
