Description

Peer discussion of three pre-prepared cases. This peer discussion session will help optometrists to improve their standards of patient care by discussing cases with a small group of fellow practitioners.

s.5 Keep your knowledge and skills up to date 

  • Understand recent changes to referral criteria and guidelines for primary angle closure suspect/angle closure suspect glaucoma.
  • Understand treatment options for angle closure glaucoma and angle closure suspect glaucoma.
  • Understand the role OCT imaging plays in aiding diagnosis of central serous retinopathy.

s.6 Recognise, and work within, your limits of competence 

  • Understand when referral of a child with a binocular vision anomaly to a specialised clinic is required.

s.7 Conduct appropriate assessments, examinations, treatments and referrals 

  • Able to apply knowledge of the new PACS PLUS and PACS MINUS criteria when considering referral of patients to secondary care for primary angle closure suspect/angle closure suspect glaucoma.
  • Understand how to conduct a binocular vision assessment to investigate a binocular vision anomaly.
  • Able to formulate an appropriate management plan for a patient presenting with binocular vision anomaly.

s.1 Listen to patients and ensure they are the heart of decisions made about their care

  • Understand that an eye care practitioner’s financial and commercial practice should never compromise patient safety.

s.2 Communicate effectively with patients

  • Able to communicate the benefits of OCT imaging to a patient in the diagnosis and management of eye conditions.
