Completing CLiP - next steps
Once you have completed CLiP and received the confirmation email, there are some essential next steps to take:
1. Change your email address on My College
Please change your Primary email address on your member profile from your university address to your personal email address. This is very important to ensure you can still access your student College membership and your member profile once you have graduated from university.
Please use your home address as your correspondence address, so when you join the College your membership certificate will go straight to you.
2. Join the College as a newly qualified optometrist
Once you have graduated you can join the College as a newly qualified optometrist and use the letters MCOptom after your name, as well as accessing a range of benefits to support you throughout your career. Your first year’s membership is heavily discounted.
3. Complete your safeguarding training and download your safeguarding certificate
The College offers all students access to free online training on safeguarding children and safeguarding adults. You will not be able to access this free training, or download your safeguarding certificate, once you are a fully qualified optometrist, and this could result in a delay in getting on your local Performers List or Health Board.
4. Join the GOC fully qualified register
Once you have graduated with your MOptom degree, the General Optical Council (GOC) recommends that you apply to join the fully qualified register before your results come out, so that they can progress your application faster once results are released.
You can complete your application on the GOC website, where you will also find full guidance. You will receive an invoice from PayPal for the GOC fee once they are ready to complete your application. Please note that the invoice will not be issued until the GOC has received a completed application and the pass results have been confirmed.
This is a very busy time for the GOC so please avoid contacting them for progress updates or simple queries that can be answered by checking online
5. Ensure you’re on the Performers List/Health Board
Once you had graduated you will need to apply to the Performers List/Health Board of the country where you will be working. Watch the Primary Support Care England (PSCE) video on hints and tips or use the application guide for submitting your Performers List Application and use the PSCE resources to support your application.
