36. A case of mistaken identity

13 November 2020

You get two patients' records with the same surname mixed up. What do you do?

Scenario

Alison is an optometrist who uses electronic records. During a busy clinic, she realises that she has got two NHS patients with the same surname mixed up, and as a result the information and photographs are saved onto the wrong patient records. She contacted the IT company which provides support for her software, who said they could delete the entries and she could then re-enter the details onto the correct record.
