This paper describes the application of the Delphi technique to appraise the S1C and explores the use of Miller’s pyramid in considering how they might be assessed.
Summary
In 2011 the GOC published its stage 1 competencies (S1C) for optometry. The S1C describe the competencies undergraduate students should demonstrate before they enter pre-reg. They should help other professionals understand the skill level of pre-registration students at the beginning of their placement and thus inform supervision and future learning. Despite the important role the S1C play, as far as we know, they have not been subject to any validation.
