Abstract
This is the second in a series of articles to be published in Optometry in Practice covering issues in general pathology. This article describes the mechanisms of the cell’s response to injurious stimuli, ranging from minor metabolic and structural adaptations through reversible cell injury to cell death. A brief description of the nature of various pathological stimuli is given. Where appropriate, an ophthalmic context is used to illustrate examples.
