As well as being part of a practice’s risk management policy it is now also a requirement of the General Ophthalmic Services Contract in England that the contractor has ‘appropriate arrangements for infection control and decontamination.’ The author then moves on to give a review of infectious agents, routes of transmission and provides a research-based practical guide to the principles and practice of infection control.
