Special circumstances

Failing and re-sitting

During the assessment visit, each task will be marked as Pass or Fail. Students only need to retake the tasks they fail. If a task includes sub-tasks, the student must pass all of them in order to succeed in that task. If a student fails a sub-task, this will mean they need to attempt the entire task again.

Assessors provide feedback and will help to identify unmet criteria for any failed task, recording this on the CLiP Portal.

If a student fails a task, they will get another attempt organised before the next visit. If any task is attempted again and failed, the whole CLiP must be repeated in full, with two opportunities allowed to pass each task. As such, each task can be attempted up to a maximum of four times, assuming no exceptional circumstances are taken into account.

Applications for exceptional circumstances

If something serious happens that affects the student’s ability attend an assessment, or may have affected their performance on an assessment visit, they will be asked to apply for an exceptional circumstance consideration and will need to provide supporting evidence.

The assessment visit or other assessment element will usually be re-scheduled or repeated if the decision is made to uphold the claim.

If a student’s situation is ongoing or more complicated, it is likely that the university will also need to be involved in decision-making.

Reasonable adjustments

The university will report any adjustments, to working conditions and/or to assessment, that the student needs in advance of the placement. The College will pass on this information to the employer as part of the process of preparing for placements.

The processes followed in these situations are set out in our CLiP Quality Assurance Processes guide, below.
