Exceptional circumstances

A trainee may be able to apply for an extension to their time on the Scheme for Registration or for the ability to begin their training one further time if they have encountered exceptional circumstances.

Share options

In normal circumstances, a trainee must complete the Scheme for Registration within two years and three months of their start date in practice or on their fourth attempt at the Final Assessment, whichever occurs first

However, under exceptional circumstances, at the absolute discretion of the College, the trainee may extend their allotted time if they have been unable to complete the Scheme for Registration due to exceptional circumstances.

Where a trainee seeks an extension to the allotted time, they must submit an application setting out:

  • the reason for an extension
  • the length of the extension requested
  • supporting evidence.

Where a trainee seeks to begin the Scheme for Registration one further time, they must submit an application within a reasonable time setting out:

  • the reason for wishing to begin the Scheme for Registration one further time
  • supporting evidence.
